HEARING TESTING

We provide comprehensive, diagnostic hearing evaluations to determine the cause of your hearing loss and the appropriate treatment options.  Not everyone is a candidate for hearing aids, and sometimes further medical assessment is required.  We are knowledgeable about the ear anatomy and physiology and are able to make the most appropriate recommendations for you.

TINNITUS

Tinnitus is the perception of sound without the actual presence of that sound in the environment.  It is often described as “ringing” or “crickets” but it can be any perceived sound in your ears or head.   Tinnitus is a common symptom of hearing loss.  It is sometimes described as the brain compensating for what it is not hearing naturally.  Tinnitus due to hearing loss is often managed with hearing aids successfully.

However, sometimes tinnitus can be suggestive of other underlying medical issues.  It can be something as simple as ear wax that needs removed, or it may be something more serious that needs medically treated.  Some other causes of tinnitus include Meniere’s Disease, vascular issues, benign growths of the auditory system, trauma to the ear or head, diet, medications, and loud noise exposure.  Based off your evaluation and a thorough history we can make appropriate recommendations on the best course of action to help you with your tinnitus.

WAX MANAGEMENT

At every appointment we will do a thorough visual examination of your ear.  One of the things we check for is cerumen build-up, or “ear wax.”  If there is enough wax in your ears, it can cause several issues including hearing loss, tinnitus, fullness of the ear, or dizziness.  We can professionally remove your ear wax through a combination of procedures including flushing with water and instrumentation using a small tool to scoop out the wax.  The procedure we use depends on the type and amount of wax you have.  If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, call our office to make an appointment as soon as possible!

HEARING

CONSERVATION

Not only do we help patients who have difficulty hearing, but we also help people to protect the hearing they still have!  Hearing is so precious, and once you lose it you often do not get it back.  If you are exposed to loud noise then you should be wearing hearing protection during those times!  We offer standard and custom-made hearing protection for all types of environments.  There are many different types of earplugs depending on the situation.  We offer plugs for factory or industrial work, musicians, shooting and hunting, and even sleeping!  Custom made earplugs are the ultimate protection devices because they are molded to your own ear and are a perfect fit.

SPECIALTY EARPIECES

In addition to hearing protection, we also provide custom molds for specialty earpieces.  If you have an ear worn device that you would like to fit more comfortably in your ear then this option is ideal.  In addition to making earpieces more comfortable it can also allow noise cancelation so that you can hear more of what you want to hear and less of what you don’t!

HEARING AIDS

If hearing aids are recommended following your hearing test then we will discuss what options would best suit your specific needs.  There are several different hearing aid styles including In-The-Ear (ITE), Behind-the-Ear (BTE), and Receiver-In-Canal (RIC).  In addition to choosing the correct style, we will also discuss your specific listening needs to determine what level of technology would be best.  We are not a “one size fits all” type of practice.  We discuss in depth with you your lifestyle, what environments you are struggling to hear in, and where you would like to see improvement.  After that we can then provide our best professional recommendations.  You can be confident that you are getting the appropriate type and level of hearing aid technology.

HEARING AID VERIFICATION TESTING

When a patient is fitted with hearing aids at our practice, we always verify that the programming is correct and that the devices are providing the appropriate amount of sound. Each ear is unique in size and shape, and this significantly affects the amount of sound that reaches the eardrum. Through Real Ear testing we verify the hearing aid programming while on the ear and make the necessary adjustments. Each of our patients can be confident they are achieving their maximum hearing potential with properly fit devices.
